John Young Obituary

John M. Young

Mr. John Millard Young, affectionately known by many names:  “$2 Biscuit Man”, “Johnny”, “Youngblood”, “Blood”, “Mr. Young”, and

“Brother Young” entered into this bright world on December 7, 1938.  He was the 6th child of 10 born to the late Idella (Bridges) Young and Marvin Young, Sr. of Turin, Coweta County, Georgia.

John joined Mt. Calvary Baptist Church of Moreland, Georgia at an early age and accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior.  Upon relocating to Atlanta, Georgia, he joined Mt. Ephraim Baptist Church where he was an avid worshipper and once served on the Deacon Prep Board.

John attended Paris Elementary School in Turin, Georgia.  Once he moved to the city of Atlanta, he attended Washington High School.  Afterwards, he worked multiple jobs until he found his passion of driving trucks.  He started driving locally in the city until he decided to go over-the-road.   He worked for Jones Truck Lines, Ryder/PIE, and Roadway.  His weekly routes were from Atlanta to Arkansas, and Atlanta to New Orleans.  After getting hurt on the job in 1995, he retired after 35 years of service.

After retirement, John started God’s Goodness, Inc. in 1995.  Through his work in this ministry, he fed thousands of families and the homeless in the local Atlanta area.  He worked at this ministry tirelessly and was able to acquire contracts with major corporations.  Boar’s Head Meats, Piece of Cake Inc, Publix Supermarkets Company, The Kroger Company and various other vendors at the Atlanta Farmers Market.  John turned an 18-passenger van into a mobile food truck where he delivered, fruits, vegetables, pastries, etc. to local churches, homeless shelters, as well as to people under the bridges of I-20.

Family was always important to John. Having been taught the true value of family values, he sought out and met the lady of his dreams over 40 years ago, Jennie.  To their union, his beloved baby girl was born, Kanika Nicole.

John peacefully moved to the place of eternal rest on the morning of Tuesday, March 3, 2020.  He was preceded in death by his son, John Bernard, his sister, Marian Young Wilson, and two brothers, Frontz Young, Sr. and Willie (Bill) Young.

He leaves to cherish his memory a loving and devoted wife, Jennie; five children, his “baby girl” Kanika Nicole (Lithia Springs, GA), Cheryl, Tony, Shelia and John (all of Detroit, MI), six brothers, Henry C. of Dayton, OH, Leroy of Fayetteville, GA, Frank (Audrey) of Atlanta, GA, Marvin, Jr. of East Point, GA, Eugene of Atlanta, GA, and Timothy of Atlanta, GA; a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren; mother-in-law, Cora S. Johnson of Pembroke Pines, FL; three sisters-in-law, Katrina Johnson of Evinston, FL.  Demona (Wilbert) Warren of Riverdale, GA, and Lisa Johnson of Pembroke Pines, FL; three brothers-in-law, Alexander Johnson, Jr. of Miami, FL, David (Erma) Johnson of Savannah, GA, and Anthony (Linda) Johnson of Jacksonville, FL, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other loving relatives and special friends.
