George Geter

Mr. George Geter passed on Sunday, February 23, 2020. Funeral services will be on Saturday, March 7, 2020; 11AM at the Calvary United Methodist Church, 1471 Ralph David Abernathy, SW Atlanta, GA 30310. Interment to follow at Lincoln Cemetery. Deacon George Olin Geter was born to the late Mr. Eugene and Mrs. Millie Bowman Geter on June 6, 1929 in Hart County, Bowman, GA. He was preceded in death by his devoted wife Mrs. Mattie Vera (Harper) Geter.

At an early age he joined Holy Springs Baptist Church in Bowman, GA where he served on the usher board. In 1975, he joined Rose of Sharon Early Church of God in Christ, where he served as a faithful deacon.  In 2013, he joined Straight Life where he faithfully served as a deacon until his passing.

With limited education, he was still a great provider for his wife and four children. He loved his grandchildren and great-grandson with all his heart. He also loved his dog, Stormy. He never met a stranger. He would talk for hours to anyone who was willing to listen.

He leaves to cherish precious memories to his four children: Mr. Harold (Connie) Geter, Ms. Linda Geter, Mr. Kenneth Geter and Mrs. Carolyn (Kofi) Geter-Akuffo. Four Grandchildren; Mr. Harold Darnell (Monica) Geter, Mr. Darius (Nicole) Williams, Ms. Dedra Cotton and Mr. Randy Akuffo. One great-grandson, Mr. Kizer Crum. One brother-in-law, Mr. Osie Harper, one Sister, Mrs. Comma Ree Brown. Four very special children, Mr. Lamar “Flip” Kincy, Mrs. Leverne Riggins, Ms. Ann Astin, and Ms. Doris Smith, nieces, nephews, and a host of extended family & friends.
