Donald Thomas Hill
Mr. Donald Thomas Hill passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, July 26, 2020 with his loved ones by his side. He was born in Atlanta, Georgia on September 11, 1948. The only child of Freddie Mae Sims and Carl Derrick Hill. Both preceded him in death.
He was the product of the Atlanta Public School System. He was a very bright student, graduating from Samuel Howard Archer High School with honors in 1966. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army where he proudly served his country for four years during the Vietnam War. Discharged September 12, 1972, he earned the rank of Private First Class while working as a paratrooper with a total of 47 jumps…from perfectly good planes.
After returning home from war, he found work as a driver for a local Ford Dealership. He drove all over the country. With an aptitude for handyman skills, he held various construction jobs that included many major structures in and around the city of Atlanta. Prior to retirement, Donald worked as a security guard at the Atlanta University Center.
Donald lived a full and happy life. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He is survived by his wife Veronica Hill; daughter Doneirea Hill; grandchildren Angela Hill, Alexus (Trevon) Walker, and Aidan Hill-Polk; one great grandchild Aubrey Walker; cousins Elaine (James) Brown, Melba Ruth Wicker, Corliss Jester (Eric Bolds), Sharon (Rinaldo) McMath, LaToshia (Todd) Sauls; and a slew of extended family and friends who loved and cherished him deeply.
Graveside service will be held on Friday, July 31, 2020 at 10 a.m. at Lincoln Cemetery, 2220 Joseph E. Boone Blvd., NW, with Reverend, Dr. Gregory V. Eason, officiating. The remains may be viewed at our chapel on Thursday, July 30, 2020 from 12 noon until 5 p.m. Family and friends are requested to assemble at the cemetery at 9:30 a.m.
