Entombment Services Friday, May 15, 2020 at 3 PM Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens 5755 Mallory Road College Park.

This is the day we celebrate the life of Arthur Lee Poole, affectionately known as "Mr. Wonderful": a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.

His life reads like a best-selling novel and the story goes like this:

On September 25, 1939, in Atlanta, GA, Arthur M. and Mary Poole welcomed their 4th child, a baby boy into the world - Arthur Lee Poole.

Arthur and his siblings were raised in the Vine City area of Atlanta. He was educated in the Atlanta Public School System where he attended The Booker T. Washington High School and was a member of the distinguished class of 1957.

Arthur was a long-time member of Flipper Temple AME Church where he was a proud member of the J. C. Williams Male Chorus and Usher Board #2. Later, he joined the Covenant Church under the leadership of the late Bishop Quincy Lavalle Carswell. During his time at Covenant he was named "Father of the Year" in 2010. Before his health declined, he joined Pilgrim Baptist Church where he continued to worship until his transition.

Arthur worked for a number of years in the hospitality industry as a Maitre D' and banquet manager. He welcomed and serviced guests with his wit and charm at various hotels in the metro Atlanta area, including the Atlanta Internationale Hotel, the Double Tree Hotel and the Wyndham Hotel. He retired from Towers Place Hotel at the age of 62.

Arthur was married to his lovely wife Bessie, for 33 enjoyable years in which he took great pleasure in cooking his delicious gourmet dishes for her, such as his crab and shrimp loaf and making his homemade eggnog during the holidays.

When he became a grandfather, those were some of the happiest years of his life. He adored his   grandchildren and his great grandchildren.  Although he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, watching sports was one of his favorite past-times. He was an avid fan of his home teams the Atlanta Braves and his beloved Atlanta Falcons.

Arthur was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers and sisters: George Poole, Rosalyn Linton, Monte G. Poole, James Poole, Jenelsia Poole, a special brother: Bishop Quincy Lavalle Carswell and his oldest son, Alonza G. Ward, Sr.

Those who will love and cherish his precious memories are: his loving and devoted wife Bessie, his caring three children: Vernelsia (Poole) Washington (John), Christopher (Chris) Ward and Glenda (Chelle) Shivers, his God-son Johnny Booker, his beloved eight grandchildren: Shante' Turner, Victor (Big Boi) Shivers, Jr., Victoria (Slim) Shivers, Shakita Turner, Camille Ward, Shakirah (Shawty) Shivers, Lauren Ward and Alonza (AJ) Ward, II, his darling four great grandchildren: Kali Fayall, Nyla Hall, Eden Shivers and Jeb Hudson, his sister Dolores (Tootsie) Poole-Lewis, his five sister-in-laws: Dorothy Roberts (George), Virginia Harris, Louise Dunning (Jerry), Rosa Stiggers and Cynthia Nwokocha (Sunny), special sisters: Sarah E. Mobley, Frances Pam Scott, Martha Jean Feagins and Lady Qwendolyn Jones Carswell, two nephews Monte (Bud) Poole (Venetia) and Carlos Poole and a host of other relatives, classmates and friends.
