Mrs. Virginia "Peggye" Dowell of Atlanta, Georgia passed away on Saturday, September 21, 2013.

Funeral service for Virginia "Peggye" Turner Dowell, 87, will be held Saturday, September 28, 2013 at 1:30PM at Friendship Baptist Church, 437 Mitchell Street, Southwest, Atlanta, Georgia with Rev. Emmanuel L. McCall, Sr., Interim Pastor, officiating, Rev. William V. Guy, Pastor Emeritus, Eulogist. The remains will be placed in state at the church at 12:30PM on Saturday.

The family will receive friends Friday, September 27, 2013 at the church from 6:00PM until 7:00PM.

Interment, South-View Cemetery.

Peggye was known for her dedicated service to Spelman College, Friendship Baptist Church, Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority, Bridges Over America, and Malverne Public School System.  The Virginia T. Dowell Scholarship Fund (aid to incoming freshman Spelman students) was awarded to Peggye for her service to Spelman.

Peggye is survived two daughters, Jehan Abdur-Rashid and Ginger Dowell-McGowen; six grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren; one niece and one nephew.
