Dr. Vincent D'Arcy Murray
Dr. Vincent D'Arcy Murray of Atlanta, passed December 21, 2022. A Requiem Mass for Dr. Vincent D'Arcy Murray will be held January 7, 2023 at 11am at Saint Paul's Episcopal Church, 294 Peyton Rd., S.W, The Reverend Pauline Samuel, Rector, officiating. Interment, Westview Cemetery. The remains will be placed in state at the church at 10 a.m. Public viewing will be at our chapel on Friday, January 6, 2023 from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Dr. Vincent D'Arcy Murray was the eldest of two sons born to Warren Taylor Murray and Carolyn Faye Ward who preceded him in death, as did a loving brother, Winfield Ward Murray, M.D. and a devoted aunt, Jean Ward Bell. He was a graduate of the Atlanta Public Schools, Morehouse College, University of Georgia, and Boston University. Dr. Murray served as an educator in the Atlanta community for over thirty years, including as principal of Herndon Elementary school and most recently as principal of Grady High School from 1991-2014. He loved his students, staff, and faculty immensely and beyond measure. He was a gentle, but powerful advocate for public school education and a fierce defender for equal access to education. He leaves to cherish his memory a loving niece, Carol D'Ann Murray; a loving nephew, Judge Winfield Ward Murray, II.; a great niece, Grayson Olivia Murray; beloved cousins, Attorney Charles T. Bell and Attorney Zylpha Pryor-Bell, their daughters, Melyen and Martene; as well as Ann Murray Briggs and many other dear relatives and friends, former students, and colleagues.
