“He lived a life marked by kindness, humility, and a generous heart — a quiet reflection of Micah 6:8, which reminds us to do justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly. His goodness spoke louder than words ever could.”
Norval Lee Norris was born on April 1, 1941, to Velma Myrtle Norris and Howard Hugh Norris in Dayton, Ohio. He departed this earthly life and transitioned into eternal rest on Sunday, March 29, 2026. He leaves behind a legacy of strength, kindness, and quiet wisdom that touched everyone who knew him.
Norval was preceded in death by his parents, Howard Norris and Velma Norris.
Norval graduated from Miami University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business. He served as an educator at Jefferson High School and Lemon Monroe High School. His decision to relocate to Atlanta with Chemlawn Service Company is what first brought Norval to Georgia. He later worked for Wells Fargo Bank, formerly known as First Atlanta, where he retired after many years of dedicated service. He eventually made the Decatur, Georgia area his home for several decades.
Norval was a gentle spirit, known for his warm smile, steady presence, and the way he could make anyone feel welcome. As a young boy, he named his five sheep “Reba, Zeba, Olga, Toga, and White Face.” Whether offering a helping hand, sharing a story, or simply sitting in peaceful company, he had a way of making moments meaningful. He found joy in simple things, good conversation, laughter, and the comfort of a good meal, always followed by vanilla ice cream with chocolate syrup for dessert. He loved watching westerns and college basketball, reading, and completing word puzzles. He will be greatly missed and long remembered by everyone whose life he touched in his own special way.
Norval was blessed with a devoted friend, Stephanie Mercer, who cared for him with the love of a daughter through their bond as coworkers at Wells Fargo Bank. She, along with her family and friends—who affectionately called him “Papa”—provided unwavering support, companionship, and compassion throughout his later years.
Norval is survived by his three children: Cindy Singleton (Kenneth), Eric Norris, and Heather Norris; one brother, Fred Norris (Joyce); three grandchildren; five great‑grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, coworkers, and friends who loved him dearly.
Norval and his family would like to extend heartfelt gratitude to his dedicated medical care team, whose compassion, patience, and attentive care brought comfort and dignity throughout his journey. Their kindness and devotion will always be remembered and deeply appreciated.
