Obituary

Mr. Nathaniel G. Billings, Jr., affectionately known by many as "Georgie Boy," entered eternal rest on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, in Atlanta, Georgia, at the age of 62, after being admitted to Emory Hospice and Palliative Care Center in Atlanta. A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, June 12, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at The Historic Wheat Street Baptist Church, 359 Auburn Ave. NE, Atlanta, Reverend Dr. William J. Smith, Jr., Pastor, officiating. Interment will follow at South-View Cemetery. Mr. Billings will lie in state at the church beginning at 10:00 a.m. on the day of the service. A public viewing will be held on Thursday, June 11, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home.Born at Grady Memorial Hospital, Nathaniel was educated in the Atlanta Public School System and proudly graduated from Washington High School, Class of 1981. During his high school years, Nathaniel developed a love for football that earned him a scholarship to Fort Valley State University.Nathaniel was known for his warm spirit, his sharp style, and the love he showed to those around him. He enjoyed staying connected with his community, especially through events with the Washington High School Alumni organization.He committed his life to Christ as a child, and that faith anchored him through the rocky moments that came with mental health battles. No matter how hard life became, he never lost sight of God’s presence or the strength he found in Jesus.In 2023, Nathaniel found his way back to Wheat Street Baptist Church, reconnecting with the spiritual home that shaped him since childhood. There, he continued his walk with Christ, surrounded by faith, fellowship, and community.He leaves to cherish his loving memory his sisters, Christine Mann, and Nettie M. Wade; nieces, Sherry (Tony) Blackmon, Deborah Echols, Jacqueline (James) George, Shantarius (Keith) Ward, Shikila Ward Fuller, and Nekeithia S. Wade; nephew, Drexel Copeland; and a host of great-nieces, great-nephews, extended family, and friends.Nathaniel was preceded in death by his parents, Nellie Kate and Nathaniel G. Billings, Sr.; and sister, Brenda A. Ward. He also shared a special bond with two close friends, Rodney Burton and Steve Robinson, whose friendship remained dear to him throughout the years. Nathaniel's life was a blessing, his memory a treasure, and he will forever remain loved beyond words and missed beyond measure
