Marcus grew up in Starkville, MS and departed this earthly life and transitioned into eternal rest on Monday, April 20, 2026, in Atlanta, GA. He finished the course, kept the faith, and now the crown of righteousness awaits him in Heaven. He has been given rest in the Lord.Marcus graduated from Starkville High School in 1995. He then earned a BFA from Jackson State University in 1999, followed by a bachelor’s degree in Fashion Design and Marketing from American Intercontinental University. He later completed a MFA from Savannah College of Art and Design in 2013.Marcus dedicated his talents to education for several years. He taught kindergarten for eight years for Atlanta Public Schools and was also a middle school Visual Arts teacher for three years for DeKalb County Schools before transitioning to focus on his art full-time.Marcus was a brilliant artist who viewed life through a different lens. He was constantly creating meaningful images by using multiple mediums, including collage, photography, acrylics, pastels, watercolors, and charcoal. He found his inspiration in reading books, watching documentaries, and from his everyday surroundings, including the students he taught and the people he encountered on the streets while traveling throughout the city of Atlanta. He used many techniques to transform his artwork from its original state into concepts of historic significance. His ultimate goal encompassed tackling the sublime or insignificant and elevating the subjects to reflect dignity and substance.Marcus dedicated his life to Christ and joined Antioch Baptist Church North under the pastorate of the late Rev. Dr. Cameron M. Alexander in 2001. He was an active member and provided various artworks to the church and church members.
