Mrs. Mamie Counts Dowling, 88, of 560 Saint Charles Avenue, Atlanta, Georgia, formerly of 196 Butler Street, Denmark, South Carolina passed away on Saturday, November 23, 2013 at Westminister Commons Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Atlanta.

The funeral service will be held at 1:00PM on Tuesday, November 26, 2013 at Union Baptist Church, Bamberg, South Carolina with the Reverend B. J. Donaldson, officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Mrs. Dowling will be placed in state at 12:00Noon.

Mrs. Mamie Counts Dowling, affectionately called "Mama Dee", was born on August 28, 1925, in Govan, South Carolina to the late Rosa Nimmons Counts and Paul Counts. She resided in Pennsylvania, where she often spoke fondly of friendships developed during her early school years and vivid memories of worshipping at the Second Baptist Church. In her later years, she graduated from Orangeburg Regional Technical College as a Certified Nursing Assistant and was employed with Barnwell County Hospital, where she faithfully served her constituents until her retirement.

Mamie lived a life devoted to the service of God and her children. She valued education and wanted to see others succeed to their fullest potential.

Mamie was preceded in death by two siblings, Samuel Counts and Dorothie Mae; and three children, Randolph Dowling, Mayetta Robinson and Pearl Nelson.

Left to cherish her life and lasting memory are five daughters, Barbara Shepherd of Orangeburg, Lynnette Robinson and Dianne Dowling of Columbia, Kay Francis Dowling of Austell, Georgia and Sharon (George) Cox of Decatur, Georgia; one daughter-in-law, Thelma Patterson Dowling of Jessup, Georgia; 15 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; a host of other loving relatives and friends.

Viewing for the public will be held Monday, November 25, 2013 from 12:00Noon to 8:00PM, with a wake scheduled from 5:00 PM to 7:00PM at Dash's Funeral Home of Bamberg, 803-534-5332.
