Lila B. Johnson

Mrs. Lila B. Johnson of Atlanta, passed away on Saturday, November 14, 2015.

The Homegoing Celebration for Mrs. Lila B. Johnson will be held on Saturday, November 21, 2015 at 12:00Noon at Providence Missionary Baptist Church, 2295 Benjamin E. Mays Drive, Southwest, Atlanta, Reverend Dr. Damon P. Williams, Pastor. Interment, Lincoln Cemetery. Her remains will be placed in state at the church at 11:00AM on the morning of the service.

Lila B. Lewis Johnson was the sixth child of the twelve children born to the late John and Alegra Lewis of Sparta, Georgia. Lila was born August 25, 1916. She attended the Public school of Sparta, Ga. After high school and some college education she began her teaching career in the Warren County School System. While teaching in Warrenton, Georgia she met and married Samuel Johnson on March 30, 1940. From this union they had three daughters, Deloris Johnson Wray, Magdlean Johnson Poitier, and the late Wilhelmeta Johnson Gaulden.

Lila was better known as Mother Dear or Dear to her family, friends and neighbors. She loved her family and her church. She was a member of Providence Missionary Baptist Church for (71) seventy one years. She loved attending Sunday school and Church weekly when she was able to do so.

Lila was a very giving person. She loved gardening and always had plenty of vegetables to share with family and friends. She also loved cooking and reading.

Lila worked at Wieuca Road Baptist Church Day School until she retired in 1989.

Lila leaves to cherish her memory forever, her sister Allegra Dudley; her daughters Deloris Wray, Magdlean Poitier; grandchildren Shani, Jaymie, Tomica, Maya, Lorenzo; great grandchildren Alexander, Garrison, Stephen, Yarley, Peter, Tai; her devoted niece Karen; and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
