Johnnie Latimer, Jr.
Retired educator, Mr. Johnnie Tillman Latimer, Jr., 90, passed away in Jacksonville, Florida on Friday, January 2, 2015 at UF Health Jacksonville Hospital.
Mr. Latimer was born in Abbeville, South Carolina in 1924. He was a graduate of Morehouse College and Atlanta University, and attended Wharton School of Business and Nova Southeastern University (doctoral studies). He was a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. and Church of the Crucifixion Catholic Church in Jacksonville, Florida. He served with distinction in the United States Army during World War II. He worked for more than 30 years in higher education, and served as a college administrator and professor. He was the first black registrar at Florida Junior College (now FSCJ), Vice President of Business and Finance at Edward Waters College, and later taught courses in accounting, business management, and economics. Survivors include: his spouse and long-term companion, Marguerite; 2 sons, Alan Latimer (Jill) and John C. Latimer, Sr.; 2 daughters, Marretta Latimer and Joanna Latimer-Reid (Cheddi); 1 brother, Phillip Rice (Henrietta); 11 grandchildren, Alan Antonio Latimer (Shannon), Gigi Latimer, Marc Latimer, Bo Latimer, Christopher Reid, John C. Latimer, Jr., Noushin Latimer, Joshua Reid, Cheddi Reid, Jr., Joseph Reid, and Christina Reid; 2 great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A Service of Remembrance for Mr. Johnnie Tillman Latimer, Jr. will be held on Thursday, January 8, 2015 from 5:00PM-8:00PM in the chapel of J. E. Fralin & Sons Funeral and Cremation Services, 5065 Soutel Drive, Jacksonville, Florida. He will then be transported to Atlanta, Georgia for interment.
Graveside service for Mr. Johnnie Tillman Latimer, Jr. will be held on Saturday, January 10, 2015 at 11:00AM at Monte Vista Biblical Gardens, 1361 Hollywood Road Northwest, Atlanta, Georgia with United States Army Military Honors. Family and friends are requested to assemble at Annae' Enterprises, LLC, 255 Walker Street, Southwest, Atlanta, Georgia at 10:00AM on the morning of the Graveside Service.
Visitation with family will be held on Friday, January 9, 2015 from 7:00PM-8:00PM in the chapel of Carl M. Williams Funeral Directors, Inc.
