Jamima Branch
Mrs. Jamima Branch passed away in Atlanta, Georgia on Wednesday, April 30, 2014.
Jamima was born on August 31, 1915 in Rockingham, North Carolina to Jessie and Martha Wall. She was the third of eleven children.
She moved to Morristown, New Jersey in 1925, where she worked as a domestic home service provider for 25 years. In 1960, she married Reverend G. Murray Branch and relocated to Atlanta, Georgia.
For fifteen years, Jamina maintained two homes while Reverend Branch taught theology at Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia and served as Senior Pastor at Dexter Avenue Baptist Church in Montgomery, Alabama. She performed many parsonage responsibilities including hosting dignitaries, advising students, and serving as a homemaker, hostess and friend to anyone who stepped through her door.
She is survived by: one stepdaughter, Diane Nunally, two sisters, Candis P. Lucas and Margaret Glover, one brother-in-law, Jack O. Lucas, and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Dexter Avenue Baptist Church-Montgomery or Friendship Baptist Church-Atlanta, in memory of Jamima Branch. Her Service of Remembrance will be held on Thursday, May 8, 2014 at 11:00AM at Friendship Baptist Church, 437 Mitchell Street, Southwest, Atlanta, Georgia with Dr. Emmanuel McCall, Interim Pastor, officiating.
