Dr. Helen Kilpatrick Threatt of East Point, Georgia, passed away on Tuesday, June 9, 2015.
The Celebration of Life, Love & Legacy for Dr. Helen Kilpatrick Threatt, will be held on Tuesday, June 16, 2015 at 11:00AM at Flipper Temple African Methodist Episcopal Church, 580 Atlanta Student Movement Boulevard, Southwest (formerly Fair Street, Southwest) with Reverend Augusta H. Hall, Jr., Pastor, officiating and Bishop Preston Warren Williams, II as Eulogist. Her remains will be placed in state at the church at 10:00AM. Family & friends are requested to assemble at the church at 10:30AM.
The LINKS, Inc. Memorial Service will be held at the church at 6:00PM on Monday, June 15, 2015, followed by the Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. Omega Service at 6:30PM, with family visitation and Service of Reflection at 6:45PM.
Widow of Morris Brown College's 12th President, the late Dr. Robert Threatt, Helen K. Threatt proudly served as Morris Brown's First Lady. During his 11 year tenure as the dynamic, visionary President of the college, Mrs. Threatt worked as College Librarian in the area of Public Service. She also mentored the Miss Morris Brown College Queens and coordinated beautiful Coronations for Homecoming. She was the founder of Women for Morris Brown College, Inc. affinity group.
After the merger of the Atlanta University Center Libraries into the AUC - Robert W. Woodruff Library, Mrs. Threatt continued her profession as a Public Service Librarian until her retirement in 2012. Prior to working at Morris Brown College, she worked at Fort Valley State College as the Reference Librarian.
She was a very active and sustaining member of: AARP, Friends of the Robert W. Woodruff Library-AUC, Joymen Wives Club, J.U.G.S. (Justice, Unity, Generosity and Service), LINKS Inc. Atlanta Chapter, N.A.A.C.P. Executive Board, Sigma Shadows, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. – Epsilon Zeta Chapter and Women for Morris Brown College, Inc.
Her life and legacy will forever be celebrated by her many family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Preserve the Legacy of Drs. Robert & Helen Threatt, 645 Martin Luther King, Jr., Boulevard, Northwest, Atlanta, Georgia 30314-4140.
