Elia Murphy

Miss Elia Chatrell Murphy of Atlanta, Georgia passed away on Tuesday, September 2, 2014.  Memorial service was held on Sunday, September 7, 2014 at 4 p.m. at our chapel.

Elia was born to Sandra and Bernard Murphy on January 25, 1989 in Boston, Massachusetts.  She was the fourth of four children, and her name means "Jehovah is God".  Elia would say that her name means "Jehovah is MY God".

Elia attended Boston Public Schools until her family relocated to Atlanta in 2004. Thereafter, she attended school in Georgia and subsequently received her GED.

She was incredibly intelligent.  Between the ages of 12 and 14, she taught herself sign language and learned to speak the Spanish language fluently.  Her ultimate goal in life was to become a physician and she never gave up on her dream.

Everyone who met Elia loved her, and even though she was allergic to animals, her nickname was "Ellie Mae" because she surrounded herself with pets to whom she gave much love.  She had one dog, four cats and a turtle.  Elia passed from this earth on September 2, 2014.  She is survived by her five children, Amore' (8), Cedrick (6), Amarri (4), Sanaa (2), and Alliana (6 months); her biological parents, Sandra Murphy Smith and Bernard Murphy; step-father, Darren Smith who she loved dearly; grandmother, Naomi Remy; siblings, Dionni Murphy, Bernard Murphy, Jr., Tyrell Murphy, Wesley Murphy and Jabari Murphy; uncles, Randy, Gerard and Mark Murphy; her best friend, Angel Milan who was there for her in so many ways; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins family and friends.
