Mrs. Henrietta Lanier Kneifel
Henrietta Iradelle (Lanier) Kneifel
July 2nd, 1930 – February 28th, 2018 (87 years old)
Henrietta “Dell” Kneifel, daughter of Emilio A. Lanier of Jackson, MS, and Myrtle M. Wilcox of Atlanta, GA, passed away in Munich, Germany. She was a retired Primary School teacher for the overseas US Military Base Schools.
A graduate of Fisk University and member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, she taught briefly in the Atlanta public schools before joining her father, an English Professor, in Japan where she began teaching in DoDD (Department of Defense Dependents’) Schools.
Returning stateside to complete her Master’s in Education in Ohio, she returned to teach with the DoDD Schools initially in France, then in Germany. She retired in 1990 after 35 years of loyal service to the children and families of our Military abroad.
She will be remembered for her dedication to her students, friends and family, as a world traveler and adventurer at a time when social barriers prevented most from venturing beyond set horizons, but most of all, for her unselfish demeanor, good humor, and everlasting smile. She will be dearly missed.
She is survived by her husband Eduard Kneifel; sisters, Harumi Lanier-Hauptman, Emiko Lanier, and Takako Lanier-Giraud in addition to brothers Emilio A. Lanier Jr., William Lanier, Felix Lanier and their children as well as cousins from the Lanier and Wilcox families. A special warm hearted “thanks” to her steadfast childhood companion and cousin Janet Shortt for her enduring presence in her life and unfaltering encouragement during her most difficult hours.
A memorial service will be held at the Carl M. Williams Funeral Directors on Saturday, March 10th at 2:00 PM. Interment at Crest Lawn Memorial Park 2000 Marietta Blvd. NW Atlanta GA 30318.
