To The Family, Life is such a precious gift from our God Jehovah (Psalms 83:18) and when that life is lost it brings such great sorrow. The Bible promises at Acts 24:14 "...there is going to be a resurrection of both the righteous and unrighteousness ." The Bible assures use that our love ones will live again when God allows Jesus to call them back to life to live on a paradise earth. Psalms 37:11 says "the meek will possess the earth and they will find exquisite delight in the abundance of peace." The Bible guarantees a bright future for obedient mankind. Please put your hope in Gods promises.

Please accept my deepest sympathy for your loss. Death is one of the hardest reality of life that we have to deal with. Our loving God Jehovah never intended for man to die, as a matter of fact he put eternity into their hearts. ( Ecces. 3: 11 ). Please persevere in prayer because our God also feels your pain. (1 Peter 5:7 )

I extend my sincere condolences to the Cook family on your loss. Jesus said that “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who exercises faith in me, even though he dies, will come to life.
Jehovah God promises us that through his son Jesus, he will wipe out every tear from our eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. Revelation 21:3,4
Please take comfort from this promise during your time of bereavement.

Dr. Cook was truly larger than life to me. He taught us how to talk, think, write, behave and compete like proud, HBCU educated Black men and women.

College presidents no longer do for young people what he did for many us. I loved, admired and respected him. We shall be grateful forever.

God bless him, Mrs. Cook, their children and grandchildren.

The world has lost one of its Lions. Dr. Cook was a Lion of the field. He epitomized servant and moral leadership, courage and promising transformation. My life changed for the better because of the didactic teachings of Dr. Cook. He was my mentor and a role model. Sending love, prayers and comfort to Mrs. Cook, Dubie and Karen, my surrogate family. I will cherish the memories and continue to apply what I learned several years ago during the many evenings at the Cook's dinner table at Fair Dillard. "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith" (2 Timothy 4:7) Indeed Dr. Cook, you have received your crown.

Hello family,
Just wanted you to know that in 1990, Dr. Cook was my family. I left the comforts of home to go to a place 6 hours away. It was scary for a young lady, to say the least. I would see Dr. Cook on campus, standing tall and proud, and I was reminded that everything would be ok. I felt safe and at home. That was everything...for a girl like me.
Thanks for sharing your husband, dad, and friend to us all.

Mrs. Cook, Doobie and Karen-
I'm so saddened to hear of Dr. Cook's passing. My encounters with him started as a little girl in the living room of my home as he prepared to speak at Southern. I would then come to Dillard as a freshman where Dr. Cook gave me a scholarship, a job, home cooked meals and lots of direction. My Dad came to Dillard after my tenure for what was to be one year and stated an additional nine--only leaving because Dr. Cook retired. I say all this to say the Cook-Prestage bond goes back over 60 years. We are all praying for you as you prepare to say your goodbyes. May the fond memories be your strength. God bless....

Dillard University Emeritus President Samuel DuBois Cook, who was also Trustuee Emeritus of Duke University, was a towering Intellectual and an Administrator par excellence. Supported actively by Mrs. Sylvia F. Cook, a loyal spouse of over 50 years, President Cook impacted the lives of numerous youngsters (male and female) and, in the process, also imparted high quality scholarship to many, including both of us, who received our Dillard University undergraduate degrees under his brilliant leadership before earning our doctoral (Ph.D.) degrees and professional (Law) degrees. May Dr. Cook rest perfectly in peace and also in the Lord Almighty, as we also extend our most heartfelt condolences to his beloved nuclear and extended families.

Also, I loved his vision for Dillard University. Dillard gave me the confidence to pursue my dream as a physical therapist when other universities said you are not good enough. After that day's event I was asked had I considered Dillard University. They told me of the president of the university. His trailblazing at Duke University. What really got me was that I looked at Dillard University. After sharing with them I loved the school, the Cheryl was added. They told me he was from Griffin, GA.
