Dr. Mitchell by far, left an indelible mark on me. Her simple application of wisdom and scholarship on this "mushy, lazy brained, unfocused" student in 1980 resulted in a story I have shared with my students over the years as I challenge them to focus and stop "cutting corners" and do their best.. I received a graded essay from Dr. Mitchell, covered in red ink, Underneath the huge "F" which was circled, was this note: "Mr. Miller, this essay amounts to sound and fury, signifying NOTHING!!" 15 -20 years later it dawned on me that Dr. Addie Mitchell, master educator, had quoted Macbeth, implied my work was empty (which it was) and I at that time was an idiot (which I was)!!! Thank you Dr. Mitchell for the countless students like myself who you challenged to become better, I have shared this with countless students. I know you have been enjoying glory for several years now but we will meet again and I will thank you in person and share a laugh!

"And the last enemy, death, is to be brought to nothing." (1 Corinthians 15:26) God promises that he will soon wipe away and reverse the effects of this enemy that causes so much pain. Your precious one will be brought back to you and you will never have to experience the pain of losing her ever again. This is a promise from God! Dr. Mitchell was a "Candle in the Dark" for me and so many other Morehouse me. I thank God for the faith that she had in me and the possibility that I could benefit from her investment of love, knowledge, wisdom and discipline. As a son of rural Alabama, as she was a daughter of rural Wilcox County, Alabama, I was drawn to her as I worked hard to become a Morehouse Man. May she rest in peace with the knowledge that her candle continues to burn bright in her Morehouse men.

I extend heartfelt condolences to the family of Dr. Addie Stabler Mitchell. Dr. Mitchell was my first professor at Morehouse in 1976. I have quoted her many times over the past forty-one years. On April 17th I quoted her at work. She once told me, "Mr. Hart, you may exit by door or window; whichever is most convenient!" Her impact on me influences me now as a career educator. I thank God for my time with her.

My sincerest condolences to the immediate family and to the Morehouse College family. Dr. Mitchell was an institution at The 'House. Through her encouragement I developed a spirit of excellence that has opened doors for me throughout my career. I owe a tremendous debt of gratitude for Dr. Mitchell and her belief in me and other students throughout the years. She will be missed and never forgotten.

To The Family, At Job 14:14, Job asked the question, "If a man dies, can he live again?..." He answers that question in verse 15, "You (Jehovah) will call and I will answer you." Job had confidence in the resurrection hope and we can too (John 5: 28,29). Jesus is the resurrection and the life. Jesus brings this point out at John 11:25. We can be thankful that Almighty God has given Jesus the authority to bring our dear loved ones back from the grave. Please allow the resurrection hope to comfort you.
