Ms. Ginger Sinclair Carter

Ginger Sinclair Carter was the only child of the late Horace and Myrtle Sinclair.  She was born in Atlanta, Georgia, December 24, 1949.  Ginger attended Drexel High School before graduating to Hampton University in Hampton, Virginia.  After 2 years she returned to Atlanta, Georgia to complete her studies at Georgia State University. 

Ginger was married to the late Edward Lionel Harris.  From that union, two children were born, LaNese Michelle Harris and Edward Lamar Harris.

Her professional career began with Atlanta Public Schools at Bethune Elementary.  Later she worked in advertising at Coca-Cola, USA.  More recently she returned to school to become a nursing assistant and was employed with The William Breman Jewish Home as a Restorative Exercise CNA.

A lifelong Episcopalian and member of St. Paul’s Church, Ginger was active in many organizations. She was a member of the Daughters of The King, Saint Cecilia’s and Saint Catherine’s Circle, The Saint Paul’s Ambassadors, the Church Choir, and a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.  She enjoyed being a part of the the Trey Clegg Singers and being involved with the neighborhood Valhacha Community Club.  In addition, Ginger was a member of The 100 Black Women of Atlanta; chairing the the scholarship committee and the annual Gourmet Gents event.

Gigi, as her grandchildren affectionately called her, is survived by her daughter LaNese Michelle Harris, son Edward Lamar Harris, two grandsons Jalon Lamar Harris and Jensen Edward Harris.  Cousins Stephanie (Ifini) Sheppard and Sabrina Sheppard, Linda Wilkerson (husband Willie), Lori Henry (husband Charles), Robert Jackson IV, Leslie Jackson, Eleanor Taylor, Katrina Parks (husband Tony), Saundra Jett, Kay Joyce Baker, Victor Jett (wife Holly), and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 9, 2017 at 10 a.m. at St. Paul Episcopal Church, 306 Peyton Rd., SW, with Father Charles L. Fischer, Rector, officiating.  Interment, South-View Cemetery.  The remains will be placed in state at the church at 9 a.m.  The Omega Omega Service of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. will be held on Friday, September 8, 2017 at 6 p.m. with Family visitation to follow until 8 p.m. at our chapel. Family and friends are requested to assemble at the church at 9:30 a.m. on the day of the service.
